Manu Saraswat | PhD Candidate
I am a computational biologist specializing in genomics and machine learning, focused on developing explainable tools to translate complex genetic data into actionable biological insights. My doctoral research involves creating machine learning methods to infer gene regulatory networks and map genetic effects using population-scale multi-omic single-cell data. Currently, I am working on deep learning approaches to predict cell-state specific gene expression from personalized genomes. During my PhD, I also interned at Genentech in their AI/ML group.
Previously, as a staff scientist at the University of British Columbia with Dr. Wyeth Wasserman, I developed interpretable sequence-based deep learning models for regulatory genomics. I hold a dual major in Mathematics and Computer Science from BITS Pilani, India. In my free time, I enjoy playing tennis, exploring coffee and brunch spots, cooking, working out, and dancing to Bollywood tunes.
