Florian Heyl | Bioinformatician
I studied Bioinformatics in Germany and continued to do my PhD in the same field at the University of Freiburg, where I worked on RNA-protein interactions. During this time, I came into close contact with the open-source project Galaxy and a world to share software and data in life science. I was soon fascinated by the idea to provide a service to help people with their research and development. Thus, I joined Oliver’s group and GHGA as a bioinformatician and scientific workflow engineer to pursue this vision. My first responsibility is the implementation of single cell + spatial omics tools and the standardization of workflows that will soon be part of GHGA, Galaxy and nf-core (Nextflow) to assist with projects in cancer and rare diseases. Consequently, I am an active member in the Galaxy and Nextflow community. My second responsibility and scientific interest is the investigation of normality and variability of organoids, and single cell + spatial omics variant detection.
